A few photos and comments

I went to a whole mess of churches today, sparing John the trouble. Here are a few photos from those and a few random ones:

Bougainvillea near the Vatican:

 Cloisters at St. John Lateran:

Escher-like stairwell at Palazzo Massimo:

Ceiling at Francesi church:

Ceiling in Francesi. Nicely understated, isn't it?

St. Ignatius - a silver and jewel-studded statue that looks like a cross between the Tin Man and Liberace.

Jesus wearing guy-liner:

Soulful face of a pugilist:

Santa Prassede chapel ceiling:

Smiley face mask hidden in the design of a mosaic floor.

Working on what we're going to do tomorrow. We have two more nights in Rome before going on to Orvieto.
