Bergamo - Northeast of Milan

We are in Bergamo for our third and last night before heading to Verona. Bergamo is a charming mid-sized city in the northern Italian region of Lombardy, northeast of Milan.

Here are a few photo impressions.

This is a view from a nearby tower of two churches that are mashed together.

You might not think that this could come across as understated. But compare it to the next church below.

Nothing succeeds like excess. This just one little piece of this church - Santa Maria Maggiore.

Although I have to admit I really liked these railing supports. (These were in the more "understated" of the two churches.)

This is a cooperative of some sort, and it's where a lot of the locals (including nearby construction workers) eat.

I remembered to take a photo after eating one bite. It was "squisito." (I've learned Italians don't say that food is "delizioso." Go figure.)

John's calzone. Also squisito.

And for dessert, this little thing that was pretty much solid sugar.

This is what one excellent dessert looked like after dinner and with only one bite left before I remembered to take a photo. This was a lemon and blackberry custard.

This was a warm chocolate cake with a melted chocolate center. Yummmmm.

The main bell tower in Bergamo. Our B&B is one block away.

The Palazzo della Ragione - sort of like City Hall.

Same building in daytime.

Random comment - In case you've wondered how the Rotary Club's name might get translated: "International Inner Wheel"

Wisteria: The recurring theme on this trip.

"E anche buona!" That's for my Italian class.
Off to bed.
